Our aim

The site is built to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines at level AA. It is a small, plain, hand-built site with no third-party widgets, which makes that considerably easier than it is for most websites.

Þat er gert

  • Hvert blað hefr nafn, eitt hǫfuð ok rétta rǫð hǫfða, svá at lesarar megi fara eptir byggingunni.
  • Litir eru valdir svá at texti ok grund lesask vel, bæði á svǫrtum stǫðum ok á ljósum.
  • Hver mynd er ber merkingu hefr orð um sik; skraut er fólgit, svá at þat sé eigi tvítekit sagt.
  • Alt verkr af lyklaborði, með sýnilegri sýn hvar þú ert, ok hlekkrinn “skip to content” efst á hverju blaði.
  • Texti má tvǫfaldask, ok ekkert blað rennr til hliðar í síma.

In English

What the site does

  • Every page has a proper page title, one main heading and a logical heading order, so screen readers can navigate by structure.
  • Text and background colours are chosen to stay legible against each other, in the black sections as well as the pale ones.
  • Every image that carries meaning has a written description; decorative ones are hidden from screen readers so they are not announced twice.
  • The whole site works from the keyboard, with a visible outline showing where you are, and a "skip to content" link at the top of every page.
  • Text can be enlarged to at least twice its size without the layout breaking, and no page scrolls sideways on a phone.
  • Nothing moves on its own, nothing flashes, and animation is switched off entirely for anyone whose device asks for reduced motion.
  • Nothing plays sound on arrival. The sound control is off until you turn it on, it is a real button, and its state is announced.
  • External links open in a new tab and say so, and sit alongside their destination rather than appearing unannounced.
  • The honest, occasionally blunt wording used across the site is deliberate: plain words are easier for everyone, including readers who use translation or reading tools.

In English

Where it falls short

  • The member cards are currently design samples, so their portraits are placeholders rather than real photographs.
  • The club's historic artworks are complex, hand-drawn illustrations. Their descriptions are written, but a written description cannot reproduce the joke.
  • Historic results supplied as spreadsheets and emails are being turned into pages by hand, so an older season may be incomplete while that work is in progress.
  • The founding tale is written in the club's deliberately archaic style. It is a period pastiche, and deliberately so, but if any part of it is awkward to read, say so and we will add a plain-English summary alongside it.
